Día de Muertos 2023 expands from les Marolles to Ghent - 11/09/2023
From 29 October till 4 November we once again celebrate Día de Muertos. With must-sees like the Grand Altar of the Dead, a series of masterclasses plus ‘Fandango’ jam session with musicians from Mexico and the Procesión with a closing concert on the Place du Jeu de Balle! A pocket edition will also take place in Ghent on 1/11 in collaboration with Bij’ De Vieze Gasten.
In just a few years, Día de Muertos in the Marolles has become the moment par excellence when people gather with family and friends in the center of Brussels to pay tribute to their deceased. With activities for young and old, Día de Muertos invites you to come and share simple gestures in memory of our deceased, without forgetting life and celebration!
This year again, the Tas d’Os art collective behind this unique celebration developed a program for all ages and interests. With workshops, concerts, Cafés Mortels, conferences and readings as from the end of October and a festive procession plus closing concert on the Place du Jeu de Balle on Saturday 4 November.
Mark the following dates in your agenda:
- – 29 & 30/10 + 2/11 Masterclass Son Jarocho with Mexican singer-guitarist Zenén Zeferino
- – 31/10 inauguration of the Grand Altar of the Dead + concert by Zenén Zeferino 📍 CC Bruegel
- – 3/11 Fandango jam session 📍 CC Bruegel
- – 4/11 la Procesión with a.o. BRUiTAL & DROM + Closing Concert by Basura 📍 on and around Place du Jeu de Balle
Another new feature of this edition: a Día de Muertos night in Ghent in collaboration with Bij’ De Vieze Gasten. This socio-artistic house in the Brugse Poort district was inspired by the five previous editions to organise the first Marollian Día de Muertos outside of Brussels, in collaboration with Tas d’Os and MetX. See you on Wednesday, November 1st for a performance by Orquesta Basura and other activities!
