Zinneke Parade: a live urban project

Zinneke Parade is a biannual event: during two years it stimulates interactions between individuals, schools, larger and smaller (artistic) communities from within and outside of Brussels.
It is a social and artistic project in which everybody can unleash his creative demons and share the fruit of his imaginative force with thousands of others.

The Zinneke Parade as an apotheosis is a collective creation in which everyone can participate. It is an experiment in urban co-existence, in a city of Zinnekes (i.e. ‘bastard dogs’, the nickname for inhabitants of Brussels, named after the brook called ‘Zenneke’, in which those dogs were drowned) who are proud of their mixed roots. But above all, Zinneke is a massive street party, without PA-system or motors: 100% human

Ever since the first edition in 2000 Met-x has participated in this event.
Fanfarrah, Fanfakids en Inyange Beat Orchestra – to name a few – premiered in this parade. In 2008 Met-x sent a delegation of 3 bands: Fanfakids, Zendo and Bagadski & Forges de Krakeb (this last formation was extended with 7 bombardplayers and 6 international guests from Belfast and Bologna).

Finally, there is also BelBoBru, the urban parade laboratory, in which Met-x is represented by Bagadski. It is an international exchange project between vzw Zinneke (Brussels), Associazione Culturale Oltre (Bologna) and Beat Initiative (Belfast).
They hit the streets together and analyse the interaction between artistic expression and social reality, between art and city. Every persons skill (as well creatively as technically or intellectually) will be stimulated in function of the sheer fun of creating. All these artists from Bologna, Brussels and Belfast will give shape to the vitality of the European identity and of a new common imaginative force.
