The ‘Ghiwanyat’ movement started out in the 70' in Morocco. Bands such as Jil Jilala and Ness El Ghiwane caused a rage with critical lyrics on a new kind of popular music.

The Ghiwanyat Orchestra project is a meeting point of musicians with different musical backgrounds that get together and bring an ode to the the Ghiwanyat movement. They bring an interpretation of the original music and add new flavours. The original melodies, originally sung by voices, remains recognisable in the cord section. The horns improvise, add new melodies and rhythms.

Ghiwanyat Orchestra is a coproduction between MET-X and MOUSSEM and is braught in the context of the 'MOUSSEM Festival'. Several concerts together with the legendary Jil Jilala will be played in Antwerp - Zuiderpershuis (14/11), Brussels - Bozar (19/11), Leuven - 30CC (21/11) Gent - De Centrale (22/11).
