The European Saxophone Ensemble (ESE) is a dynamic group of 12 young players who originate from 12 European countries. The ensemble holds the title of Cultural Ambassador of the European Union. Its members -excellent musicians gathered from different professional environments- are chosen in auditions throughout Europe and prove that cooperation between music styles is possible.
The artistic aim is to break down the barriers between different types of music, mainly classical, modern and improvisation. The repertoire covers a wide spectrum of styles: avant-jazz, contemporary, traditional and classical music. The compositions are commissioned from 4 prominent composers from different countries.
In the second part of 2010 ESE will record a second CD and tour in 10 European countries. Their concerts turn into a joyful feast when the ensemble gives voice to the saxophone as the youngest European acoustic instrument, the most natural to marry the different styles.
The ESE has started in 2008 and has been distinguished with the title of Cultural Ambassador of the EU. The first CD “Reed Action” was released in 2008. This CD was recorded in Studio Toots in Brussels with the cooperation of the Belgian National Radio station “KLARA”. After the release, the ensemble has toured in Belgium, Estonia, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
The European Saxophone Ensemble's artistic director, Cezariusz Gadzina, is an outstanding saxophonist in the fields of classical, jazz and contemporary music. He has graduated from the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels. He has played as a soloist with many symphonic orchestras and worked also with National Philharmonics of Warsaw, Orchestra of the National Opera in Warsaw and Orchestra of Opera 'De Munt' Brussels, Ictus ensemble, Blindman! and several projects of MET-X, including Saxafabra of which he also is the artistic director.
The European Saxophone Ensemble is a MET-X production with the support of the culture programme of the European Union.
