12 August > Women in Jail – interviews with female prisoners
The preparations of ‘Taule de Dames’ (Women in Jail) have started! During the following weeks, the musicians will enter the Brussels’ female prison ‘Berkendael’ in order to interview 7 women. The answers of these women will be a guideline through the project and the compositions. The new repertoire will be presented in different prisons and concert venues. More info via wenke@met-x.be

Biography
Stories are passed on by means of music, words and images. For the project “Women in jail” musicians asked a series of questions during an interview with 7 female inmates of the Berkendael prison. The answers to these questions formed the backbone for this project and were translated, both musically as audiovisually, in a unique way.
The music that arose is eclectic. Each song has its own rhythm and tone-colour that refers to a specific artistic intuition. The imprisoned women suggested a musical style themselves that acted as a basis for the compositions and that was interpreted by the musicians. Video footage draws an image of every theme. They do not necessarily explain what led them to jail. It concerns stories that are precious to them, memories or projections towards the future.
The musicians enter the world of the prison and create a glance outside, from the perspective of the incarcerated women. The repertoire of ‘Women in jail’ is presented both inside as outside of prison.

A Véronique Delmelle project
By means of a classical education at the conservatory of Liège and an intensification in improvisation, Véronique develops an exceptional musical course. She realises a large amount of assignments in creation and composition by which she empathises effortlessly with contemporary music and a various series of professional projects. Further she takes the lead of a neo-brass band and a few music-educational projects with children. All this takes place in combination with saxophone lessons she teaches at the music academy (Etterbeek & Liège). She plays/used to play among others in the following projects: Blindman, Ocean, Sans Tambour Ni Trompette, Marockin’ Brass, Saxafabra, After Paf, Tussob’Band, Zappa, Ghiwanyat, Transit, Meufs marinées, Novanoïs fanfare…
