MetX goes ramadan friendly - 22/03/2023

MetX goes ramadan friendly

During the month of Ramadan, a number of cultural organisations in Brussels work to make their activities accessible to people of Muslim origin. MetX also participates in this Kaaitheater initiative. During our master class weekend, for example, we offer facilities allowing everyone to participate, regardless of their religion.

As from Thursday 23 March 2023, Muslims around the world participate in Ramadan, their holy month of fasting. In the cultural sector, this means that audiences, artists and cultural workers of Muslim origin will continue to work and attend performances throughout this period.

Via the ramadan friendly label, a dozen of cultural organisations in Brussels receive various suggestions to make their activities accessible to people of Muslim origin.

MetX is also taking part: during our annual master class weekend from 24 to 26 March in Destelheide, we set up a quiet room, where the participants of our groups can retreat for prayer or meditation. And evening meals, normally served at 6 p.m., are served to Muslims at the time of breaking the fast.

In recent years, Ramadan has remained totally invisible in the cultural field. It is time for that to change. With ramadan friendly, the organisations involved want to create a collective dynamic across the city. On, a toolbox with suggestions and actions is available to all.

Ramadan friendly is a project by Kaaitheater, in partnership with Atelier 210, Bâtard Festival, Beursschouwburg, BRONKS, Decoratelier, les Halles de Schaerbeek, KANAL – Centre Pompidou, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, La Bellone, Le 140, LEVL, MetX, Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, RAB/BKO, There is Nothing Wrong With People, YouYou group and Zinnema. Together we wish everyone a happy Ramadan!
