Tsoukina is a project by the young musician Imane Guemssy. Skilled in the traditional gnawa music and rhythms in Morocco and Brussels, she wants to make this repertoire accessible for other girls and women. She rearranges traditional songs, adapting them to the higher pitches of female voices.
To these vocal lines, Imane adds the guembri, a north african lute, and krakeb, mediterranean percussion instruments. These new compositions are being further developed by Imane and the other musicians of Tsoukina via a wild card from MetX. After a first try-out at the MetX Solidarity Jam at the end of 2019, this spring they perform at Chaabi Habibi, Hospitality Festival and Brussels Jazz Weekend.
