Corona turns agenda upside down

The social distancing measures oblige MetX to thoroughly review our agenda for 2020. At least until the end of August, many events will be cancelled, moved to a later date or feature alternative formulas like online gatherings and pop-up concerts.

Connect 2020 goes online 04-07/05
The Amateo event CONNECT 2020 at the end of March will be replaced by the virtual conference ‘Re-Connect’. From 4 to 7 May, participants from all over Europe will gather online for presentations and workshops on the theme ‘Empowering Youth’. On May 6, a number of organisations from Brussels will also participate, such as Bronks, the Fanfakids, Lasso and MetX. Discover the full program of Re-Connect.

20 or 21 years Fanfakids
This year should have been an absolute celebration year for our boys and girls from Molenbeek. Many of the planned performances, international exchanges and festival participations in the spring and summer will not be able to take place. Centrum West and MetX are doing their utmost to celebrate the 20th and/or 21st anniversary in the best possible circumstances. Stay tuned with us to find out how/what/where! Meanwhile here’s a preview of their new costumes designed by Fauve Ryckebusch:

Zinneke Sans Parade

Immediately at the start of the lockdown, all workshops for the May 16th parade were shut down. Together with all concerned artists and partner organisations, the Zinneke team is currently thinking about alternatives to share the co-creative route of thousands of Brussels residents with the general public. In whatever form: 20 years of Zinneke will not go unnoticed!

No Brussels Jazz Weekend… but still a Bel Jazz Fest!

The last weekend of May, Mâäk Quintet and more than 20 other jazz artists perform at the Bel Jazz Fest. This online festival is a co-production by some of the most appreciated jazz festivals from Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia.

The 4th edition of the Brussels Jazz Weekend, which would’ve taken place this same weekend, will be postponed to May 2021. Chances are high that we will be able to transfer (parts of) our programme with Bakanaï, Remork & Karkaba, Mâäk Quintet and guest musicians such as Laïla Amezian, Zouratié Koné, Imane Guemssy and Nabou Claerhout to next year!

Belgian World Music Meetings 19/05 & 9/11

The annual meeting and showcase night will be postponed to November 9th. This appointment with the cream of the Belgian global sounds scene will take place in AB + Palace. On the 19th of May you can already join them for an online meeting with workshops.

Fête de la Musique dans les Marolles
As in previous years, MetX, CC Bruegel and a whole host of partners from the Marolles planned a music festival for “Fête de la Musique”. The brass battle on the Vossenplein, in which Mâäk Quintet would bring along the fanfares Bakanaï and Babelouze from Brussels, Ledebirds from Ghent and Urbanda from Charleroi, will unfortunately not take place. Nevertheless, some musicians from these groups would like to cheer up schools, social organisations and other places in the neighbourhood with some mini-concerts during the weekend of 19-21 June. And who knows, maybe in the autumn (some of) the above groups will descend to the Marolles for the celebration of Dia de Muertos, which could get a very particular interpretation this year.

Other cancellations or postponements
ICAF, Midi-Minuit, Jazzdor, Irisfeest-Fête de l’Iris, Fiesta des Ursulines, Couleur Café, Afronautes or Supermercado. These are just some of the events we will unfortunately have to miss in 2020. Happenings and festivals like Noche del Cosmogolem, TempoColor, SuperVliegSuperMouche have been postponed to later this year, until further notice.
